People ultimately determine their own fate. History has shown us that the fate of a people, that is will they demand freedom where they are free to determine their own lives, to make their own choices, to have their own thoughts and to express those thoughts, or will they allow the a bureaucracy of failed, selfish, power hungry, and incompetent unelected and unresponsive people to tell them how they must live their lives, choices they can make, and thoughts they can have and how they must express those thoughts, is determined by them.
As a people are more and more restricted by the actions of incompetent and failed people who learned that government service is their surest way to security since they rise in power because of longevity and incompetence, and not based on positive results, the people understand that they do have the power to rid themselves of the failure that is government. Conversely, as a people have become more and more prosperous they become less and less interested, informed, and involved in their government, and the failed bureaucracy becomes more and more prevalent. This vicious circle is evident in the quotes of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Barack Obama. Jefferson, considered to be the author of the Declaration of Independence, was devoted to individual liberty and freedom, and understood that government was but a necessary evil. Jefferson told us, “The spirit of resistance to government on certain occasions is so valuable that I wish it to be always kept alive.” James Madison, considered to be the author of the Constitution of the United States, understood that government thirsts for power and reminded us of that when he told us, “The danger from legislative usurpations, which by assembling all power in the same hands, must lead to the same tyranny as is threatened by executive usurpations.” The Constitution was written to specifically limit the power of government and to protect the individual liberty bestowed on each of us by the Creator. Obama, a devoted and loyal communist, a student of Frank Marshall Davis, he enhanced the politicizing of the bureaucracy, and turned the FBI and DOJ into police forces his communist movement, said what all devoted communists believe and that was, “If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists – to protect them and to promote their common welfare – all else is lost.” Power will be held by the people or by government. When the people trust that government has their best interest at heart, power accumulates in the bureaucracy which is comprised of incompetent and failed people. When the people understand that government is never and never will be their friend, that government that governs least always governs best, they will retake power from the government, no longer trust government, and they will live free from the tyranny of government. Those who are silent on this issue, those who refuse to be a part of the irate and tireless minority “Setting Brushfires of Freedom” in the minds of their fellow citizens, contribute as much to the tyranny of government as do those who believe that government is their friend, that government that dictates how they live their lives, choices they make, and thoughts they can have. Sorry people, but your either support and defend individual liberty and freedom or you willing submit to the tyranny of government. In this 2023, what will your choice be????

Comrade Jamie Raskin said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that the electoral college “has become a danger not just to democracy, but to the American people.”
The good Comrade Raskin went on to say, “Well, I think that the Electoral College now, which has given us five popular vote losers as president in our history, twice in this century alone, has become a danger not just to democracy, but to the American people. It was a danger on January 6th, there are so many curving byways and nooks and crannies in the Electoral College, that there are opportunities for a lot of strategic mischief. We should elect the president, the way we elect governors, senators, mayors, representatives, everybody else, whoever gets the most votes win. “ Raskin either does not understand our founding and why our founders did what they did or he is opposed to their reasoning and their purposes for their actions. Raskin, like so many Americans, believes, or at least states that we are a democracy. That is mistake number one, we were never intended to be a democracy. We were formed as a republic. In a republic the law or the Constitution is the Supreme Ruler of the Land while in a democracy the whims and wishes of the majority of some ruling body is the Supreme Ruler of the Land. Our founders formed us as a Republic and adopted the Electoral College to protect against the evils of democracy which they said is a dictatorship that provides no protections for the liberty and freedom of the people, especially those in the minority. The way the Electoral College was intended to work was that the people would vote for individuals who would then vote for whom they wanted to be president. In Federalist 68, Hamilton made this his opening statement: “THE mode of appointment of the Chief Magistrate of the United States is almost the only part of the system, of any consequence, which has escaped without severe censure, or which has received the slightest mark of approbation from its opponents. The most plausible of these, who has appeared in print, has even deigned to admit that the election of the President is pretty well guarded. I venture somewhat further, and hesitate not to affirm, that if the manner of it be not perfect, it is at least excellent. It unites in an eminent degree all the advantages, the union of which was to be wished for.” Please reread what Hamilton told us was the overwhelming consensus of those who formed us as a republic where the Constitution was the Supreme Ruler of the Land and not the whims and wishes of the majority of some ruling body. Hamilton said the Electoral College was closest be being revered by all. Hamilton went on to say, “It was equally desirable, that the immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice. A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated investigations.” The founders believed it was best to have discerning people choose our president as opposed to the “people” who would choose a president because he gave them phones. Raskin disagrees with the founders and believes that it is more critical to have uninformed people choose the person for such an important position, but that is what those who favor democracy believe. And Hamilton gives the reason for the electoral college when he told us, “Nothing was more to be desired than that every practicable obstacle should be opposed to cabal, intrigue, and corruption. These most deadly adversaries of republican government might naturally have been expected to make their approaches from more than one quarter, but chiefly from the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils.” Today, corruption reigns supreme in the election of the President. Today, China predominantly is the foreign power that orchestrated the election of 2020. Also, it becomes more and more clear that the forces of the World Econimic Forum groomed Obama. Today, corruption is the hallmark of our elections. Hamilton understood that for the people of the United States to be free from the tyranny of government, we must be a Republic and the Electoral College is a key component of that end. Raskin believes that government must control the lives, choices, thoughts, and statements of all and for this to be accomplished the United States must become a democracy. For the United States to become a democracy, the Electoral College must be eliminated. You must decide if you want freedom or dictatorship. You must choose between Hamilton and Raskin. Propaganda, known today euphemistically as ‘public relations’, is the manufacturing of consent. Propaganda is the act of deliberately spreading false or deceptive information, ideas, rumors, doctrines, or principles propagated by an organization or movement to help or harm a target person, group of people, movement, institution, nation, etc. It’s the distortion of information to suit a particular agenda. Along with its ‘proper’ use comes the ability to control the masses and mold the collective mind.
The left in the United States has promised to transform our nation from a Republic to a Democracy. They are very close to accomplishing this task. This will nullify the American Revolution. The purpose of the American Revolution was to free Americans from the tyranny of government and enable all to live in a nation where individual liberty and freedom was championed. This is why we were founded as a Republic and not a Democracy. A Republic is a nation that is ruled by law. Our founders wrote the law in the Constitution. A Democracy is a nation ruled by the whims or desires of the majority of some controlling body. The majority continually redefines the controlling body. This is why democracy is a dictatorship, it completely disregards the rights of any the majority dictates should be disregarded. A Republic protects the rights of all. Many people have been indoctrinated to believe that a democracy represents freedom. This is the same as convincing people that up is down and down is up. Our founders specifically rejected democracy because they understood that democracy is, “a dictatorship of the majority over the minority that quickly becomes a dictatorship of the few over the many.” This is as consistent as is the fact that gravity always pulls back to earth. The United States is much more of a democracy today than it is a republic. Our Constitution, our law, is completely ignored by our legislative branch, by our executive branch and by our judicial branch of government. Two specific examples are freedom of speech and equal treatment under the law. Our Constitution states that freedom of speech cannot be abridged and that all must be treated equally under the law. The Marxist movement has abridged freedom of speech and equal treatment under the law is non-existent. Our government condones and promotes censorship of speech today that does not conform to the Marxist doctrine or the dictates of the left. This is now called misinformation and is censored. Those who are accused of spreading misinformation are ostracized, demonized, and now prosecuted and jailed. It is the small majority of the controlling Marxist movement that is controlling the masses. This is how democracy works and why our founders rejected it. There is no equality under the law. The small majority of the controlling Marxist movement has stated that if you agree with their movement you are exempt from prosecution and thus from any punishment no matter what your crime might be including murder. The murderers of Ashli Babbit and Seth Rich will go unpunished. If you oppose the Marxist movement you are today considered to be an enemy of the people. In the United States today we have political prisoners, or people who were opposing the Marxist movement. They have consequently been arrested, prosecuted, and now serving prison terms for misdemeanors while others who support the Marxist movement have committed felonies including murder, and if arrested, were immediately realized from custody with all charges dismissed. This is how democracy works and why our founders rejected it. In the United States today, our Constitution is ignored, which means we no longer have limited government, the rights of all are not protected, and we no longer are a country that follows “rule of law.” We are now a democracy where a majority of a smaller and smaller body dictates the size and control of government and rations what liberties the people can have and which people can have them. We are a democracy where the few control the many. So, you understand, if you support the Democrat Party or you vote for Republicans in Name Only, like McConnell, Romney, McCarthy, Collins, and Murkowski, you are supporting Marxism and the destruction of the family. Always remember, it is not what people say but what people do that determines their true intent. People will say they support the family but vote for laws whose intent and purpose is to destroy the core family unit.
Marxism cannot function when the core family unit is the bedrock of a society. A society where individual liberty and freedom is the goal cannot function without the core family unit being its base. Those who favor control of the people by the state, which Marxism does, have sought to replace the family unit and instead strive for what they call “the greater good” which is a catch all phrase for conformity by all. Karl Marx said that society must become a one class or what he called a “classless society.” A classless society, according to Marx, meant there must be no differences economically or socially. The state would provide for all, and the state would tell all how they must think and what they could say. This is why it is so critical that the core family unit be destroyed before Marxism can gain a firm grip on a society. Indoctrination of children in state run schools is a key component as is a state controlled media and entertainment industry so Marxist propaganda is dominant in all communications. When the core family unit is strong, the parents have a great influence on the values of children. This means that the society has multiple sets of values. This means that discussions or arguments, you choose, take place about policies of all kinds. This means that we would have had and would be having open and honest discussions about national health, the FBI and DOJ becoming a nationalized police force for Marxist policies, political prisoners in our “free nation”. Is abortion a choice or murder, should the head of a crime family be in the White House, should free speech be abridged, should secularism be our national religion, and should we continue to have elections determined by vote counters. People on either side would not be censored in any way but free and encouraged to speak openly. Marxists believe it is paramount that they be able to censor and to punish any who refuse to conform to their dictates. Marxists believe that what the state dictates is official and irrefutable. Marxists believe that children must be indoctrinated with state values. Marxists believe that the population must hear only their values or their propaganda. Marxists believe that the state must be able to use whatever means is necessary to intimidate all into conforming to Marxist values. The Marxists have always understood that if they destroy the family unit, and they have done this in the past by promoting perversions of all kinds, by promoting all sexual immoralities, by promoting the murder of the unborn, by promoting hatred and division, and by promoting strife within families, it is far easier to bring about total conformity through intimidation. Indoctrination, propaganda, and intimidation are the tools used to force conformity. When open and honest discussions are a part of society, the society advances and becomes a more free and prosperous society. Freedom and prosperity are enemies of Marxism. In a society with the core family unit as its base, freedom and prosperity exist. Marxism is revealed for what it is, a state controlling the masses by a few evil power seekers, as is proven by the leadership of the Democrat party with the aid of their “useful idiots” the RINOS. We will hear the words “Merry Christmas” and will say the same many times in the next couple of days. To many it is a trite cliché and thus has no meaning. The general connotation for “Merry Christmas” seems to be one of happiness, warm feelings toward others, and a time to gather with people you generally enjoy or in some cases to be nice to people you do not really like.
It is now common for many people to express their desire that the “true meaning” of Christmas be celebrated and that “true meaning” centers around the birth of Jesus and the scenes pictured in Matthew and Luke. Silent Night, which is a beautiful song, is sung by these people and the behavior of Mary and Joseph is noted as it should. This picture of the young virgin and the honorable Joseph are wonderful examples of faith and obedience, but the “true meaning” of Christmas is told to us in John 3: 16 and 17 and Isaiah 53: 6. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, everyone, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Jesus was born for the purpose of going to the cross as the sacrifice for our sins. When we believe this we are no longer condemned but now receive the gift of eternal life forgiven of our sins. How truly wonderful Christmas is. Merry Christmas The United States of America was formed as a Republic where the law is the Supreme Ruler of the country. We were specifically formed as a Constitutional Republic. Our law is written in the Constitution and that makes the Constitution the Supreme Ruler of the land. If we were still a Republic and not a democracy, the 2020 election would have been declared to be null and void because it violated the Supreme Ruler of the land or the Constitution. The Constitution specifically states that state legislatures establish the rules for voting, not state supreme courts, not judges, not governors, not secretaries of state, and not other election officials. In a democracy it is the majority of whatever body that is in power rules the law to be. That majority said anybody can change the voting rules so long as it benefits the left or those in control.
These types of violations of the Constitution have transformed the United States from a republic to a democracy this has been happening for over 100 years. Today people no longer even refer to us as a republic. Democracies are dictatorships that bring about police states, which the United States is today. How did this happen? The United States has been transformed from a republic to a democracy to a communist police state because those who claim to be dedicated to individual liberty and freedom are not committed to or do not have the fortitude to fight. Those who have failed our republic over the years are the same as those who are failing it today, that would be RINO’s who support leadership like McDaniel, McConnell, and McCarthy. The Republican members of the Senate have already stated that they agree with the police state of the Democrats by placing McConnell as minority leader once again. The Republican party will tell us what they really want later in January. If they support McDaniel they are voicing their support for the choice made by the Senate. The House is also choosing a new leader, this time to be the Speaker of the House. RINO or “useful idiot” McCarthy appears to have an inside seat. Of course, McCarthy is now acting as if he supports republic, but he has done this in the past. He recently stated concerning the Omnibus Bill, “the omnibus spending bill is being passed through a process where no one can read it and without any committee process, and “when we take the majority, we won’t allow the Senate bills to come up unless they move through committee. We won’t allow them to do an omnibus again.” And House Republicans need to be able to “craft one in the beginning of next year where we can save and eliminate waste, but actually save money for the taxpayer as well.” Now remember, McCarthy has been a part of the House leadership for the past decade under Boehner and Ryan. Just like Boehner and Ryan, McCarthy has become known for saying, “OK, this time, but never again.” The never again never happens. The congress now operates by passing Omnibus Bills and forsaking the budget process using copen hearings through the committee process and then having debates on the floor. Senators and Representatives do not like the budget and committee process because they have to take public positions. This is not good for them politically and because they are politicians and not statesmen, they have found a convenient means to avoid what could be a difficult position. The Republican party has been controlled by RINOs for years. If McCarthy is elected to the speaker position, we will find ourselves in this exact position at the end of 2023 and that is another Omnibus Bill that has to passed immediately. The Democrats (communists) and their “useful idiots” (RINOs) support the police state. It allows them to live in luxury and enjoy power at the expense of the American people. If we who understand that a republic is critical for individual liberty and freedom, continue to surrender to the “useful idiots” of the democrats by placing people like McDaniel, McConnell, and McCarthy in leadership positions, we are as responsible for the loss of our freedoms as are Schumer, Pelosi, Schiff, Biden, and Harris. 12/20/2022 Ordinary Americans Are Going To Have To Save The Country Themselves, One Town At A TimeRead NowI saw this article in the Federalist written by John Daniel Davidson. He echoes what we know and that is that since we ordinary Americans are responsible for losing our freedom and liberty, we must take it back.
What can regular people do to take back their country from woke radicals? Take over local institutions, one at a time. What can ordinary people on the right, Christians and conservatives, do to help save the country — besides voting on Election Day? It’s a good question, and it comes from the very understandable feeling of helplessness many people feel about the direction of the country and, let’s be honest, the collapse of Western civilization that’s now well underway. It’s especially easy to get frustrated after an election cycle like the one we just had, in which Republican leaders thoroughly botched it and left things more or less where they were before the voting. Put another way, if voting doesn’t really change anything in our so-called democracy, what will? There’s an answer to this question, but you’re not going to like it. The plain truth is this: You’re going to have to save the country yourselves. Donald Trump isn’t going to save it. Ron DeSantis isn’t going to save it. There’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that a GOP majority in Congress is going to save it. By all means, keep voting in national elections. Keep making your voices heard at the ballot box. But salvation won’t come from Washington, D.C. If America is going to be saved, or even just parts of it are to be saved, then ordinary men and women, God-fearing patriots all across the country, are going to have to do it themselves, one town at a time. And they will have to do it the old-fashioned and unglamorous way, by taking over the local institutions of civic life, organizing and winning elections for city council and school board, finding reliable and competent people willing to be candidates and staff and volunteers. It’s going to be a long, thankless slog, but there’s no other way. Neither is there any guarantee of success. I speak here only of towns and suburbs, not of cities, many of which have become unlivable after decades of failed Democrat governance and leftist policies. Conservatives who can manage it should move to places where they can join with other like-minded Americans to take back their communities and instill a civic culture that reflects their beliefs. We got into this situation through passivity, and only a sustained effort at the local level will get us out. For decades, conservatives did nothing while the left marched through academia — and then kept right on marching, down from their ivory tower and into the public square, into the schools, the libraries, corporate boardrooms, local police and fire departments, even the churches. These people have radical views far outside the American mainstream but nevertheless control all our institutions. If you want them back, you’ll have to take them back, post by post. This is not the kind of thing the right likes to hear. By temperament and principle, conservatives would rather be left alone to run their businesses, raise their families, worship in their churches, and build up their charities and local communities. Unlike liberals and leftists, they tend not to be ideologues. They are not trying to fundamentally change the country. They mostly want to be left alone. Residents, in all communities, who until now might have never been involved in local politics will have to roll up their sleeves, give up some weekday evenings, and get involved. They will have to put up their own conservative candidates and vote out of office the city councilors who empowered woke municipal bureaucracies. They will have to fire the cadre of leftist bureaucrats who run things and replace them with their own people. They might even have to change their city charter so that elected members of the city council actually do the work of the public in City Hall, not an unelected city manager who sees the job as merely a steppingstone to a bigger city. The same goes for the library, the school board, and every other local institution in every American town. Conservatives have to take them over if they can. To answer the question we began with, that is what ordinary people can do. And they have to start now. No one is coming to help, and time is running out. The so-called investigative committee for the January 6 protest is about to end its charade. They will recommend that Trump be investigated for criminal activity despite them doing this for the last year and finding nothing to warrant this claim. They did not have to take a year to come to their conclusions because they were already etched in stone the first day the committee met. Yes, this was nothing more than a show hearing.
What we do not know is why did Nancy Pelosi refuse the National Guard that was offered. How long had Pelosi and the FBI been planning to make this look like a riot? How many FBI agents were on the ground trying to incite violence? Who and where is Ray Epps? Who actually planted the pipe bomb and why has the tape not been released? Why has there been no investigation of the murder of Ashli Babbitt? Why has there been no explanation as to why the so called violence was occurring while Trump was still speaking? Why do the members of the committee fear Donald Trump? In addition to the above questions about January 6, there are other questions that are no longer asked that this inquiring mind would like to know. I would like Debbie Wasserman Schultz to be asked under oath about her relationship with Imran Awan and why the story was dropped so quickly. I would like to know who killed Seth Rich, why he was killed, and why the Washington D.C. police and the FBI seem to have no interest in knowing. I still would like to know what ever happened to the quick and thorough investigation promised by John Roberts into the leaking of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Has the leaker ever been identified? I would like to know about the 150 suspicious financial transactions from Hunter and James Biden. I would also like to know what has happened to the money and the weapons that are being sent to Ukraine. There seem to be some very important questions that should be answered, questions that are far more important than stories about Harry and Meghan for instance, or why Keith Olbermann is outraged. It is critical that Americans understand just how unique our founding was. We had a revolution that was followed by building a nation that placed the people as the sovereign and not some form of government. The government was designated as the servant. This was unique. The founders went on and built us around the principles of rule by law and not by the whims and wishes of an easily manipulated and impressionable majority, a republic and not a democracy.
The most unique aspect of our founding is that our founders recognized that our rights and liberties are endowed upon us as individuals and they come from God and not from government. The only role government was to ever play when it came to individual rights and liberties was to protect them. Government is specifically prohibited from abridging or infringing our rights and liberties. The Ninth Amendment states that this absolute limitation applies to all rights and liberties from God, not just those specifically mentioned. Our new and unique government was instituted by a moral people. Yes, they used the influences of Locke and Montesquieu, but the greatest influence was the Bible. The most contorted part of the First Amendment is where it states that Congress shall make no laws respecting the establishment of a religion. This means that Congress cannot state that we would have a national religion supported by our national government and not that we would be prohibited from worshiping God in private or in public, on private grounds or public grounds.. If we are to restore our republic, that is restore limited government, restore individual liberty and freedom, we must return to being a moral society. We have occupying our White House a family that is a proven Crime Family, a family of druggies, liars, perverts, and pedophiles. A truly immoral family. They are protected by government and raised as an example by the Democrat party. John Adams in a speech to the military in 1798 warned his fellow countrymen stating, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams is a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and our second President. Benjamin Rush, Signer of the Declaration of Independence said. “[T]he only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be aid in religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments. Without religion, I believe that learning does real mischief to the morals and principles of mankind. “Noah Webster, author of the first American Speller and the first Dictionary said “[T]he Christian religion, in its purity, is the basis, or rather the source of all genuine freedom in government. . . . and I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist and be durable in which the principles of that religion have not a controlling influence. “Gouverneur Morris, Penman and Signer of the Constitution.” [F]or avoiding the extremes of despotism or anarchy . . . the only ground of hope must be on the morals of the people. I believe that religion is the only solid base of morals and that morals are the only possible support of free governments. [T]therefore education should teach the precepts of religion and the duties of man towards God. “Fisher Ames author of the final wording for the First Amendment wrote, “[Why] should not the Bible regain the place it once held as a schoolbook? Its morals are pure, its examples captivating and noble. The reverence for the Sacred Book that is thus early impressed lasts long; and probably if not impressed in infancy, never takes firm hold of the mind. “John Jay, Original Chief-Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court, “The Bible is the best of all books, for it is the word of God and teaches us the way to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts.” If the people of the United States were to listen to what our founders told us and were to put into practice this sound advice, the United States would quickly become that haven of individual liberty and freedom where we could once again say with pride and conviction, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, amongst them the right to LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. The Communist Party of the United States, AKA Democrats, is as atheistic as are all communists. The biggest hindrances to communism in the United States would be the Bible and the Constitution. The Democrats have virtually eliminated the Constitution. They are, as have many people, trying to eliminate the Bible.
Ronald Reagan shared a story about the history of Christmas in the Ukraine before and after communism. Secularization of Christmas, removing Christ from Christmas, which is also an attempt to negate the Cross, which is the essence of the Bible, has been a key element of the attempt by the Communist Party of the United States, AKA Democrats, to negate the Bible as they have the Constitution. Reagan’s story: In an effort to resist Christians, communist leaders secularized a favorite Ukrainian Christmas carol, "Nova Radist Stala" ("Joyous News Has Come to Us"). The original song began with these words: "The joyous news has come which never was before/ Over a cave above a manger a bright star has lit the world/ where Jesus was born from a virgin maiden." Communists feared the public outcry that would follow a complete ban on Christmas, so they began to slowly secularize the holiday. The first rewrite of the song began: "The joyous news has come which never was before/ a red star with five tails has brightly lit the world." The second rewrite went further: "The joyous news has come which never was before/ Long-awaited star of freedom lit the skies in October [the month of the Revolution]/ Where formerly lived the kings and had the roots their nobles/ there today with simple folks, Lenin's glory hovers." The former Soviet Union eventually began banning Christmas commemorations. St. Nicholas was replaced with "Did Moroz," or "Grandfather Frost." This Stalinist creation wears a red cap and long white beard of Santa Claus, but he delivers gifts to children on New Year's Eve. Christmas trees were also banned, but people continued to trim their New Year's trees. Communism folded all Christmas celebrations into a New Year's celebration. Christians in the former Soviet Union exhibited bravery and courage in confronting communism's anti-Christmas campaign. One person recalled how the young people would go out in the streets and sing Christmas carols, knowing that if police heard them, they would be arrested. In communist Romania, Rev. Geza Palffy, a Roman Catholic priest, delivered a sermon in 1983 protesting that Dec. 25 had been declared a workday instead of a holiday. The next day he was arrested by secret police, beaten, imprisoned, and died. Inside and outside the Iron Curtain, Ukrainians never stopped singing: "We beg you our Lord, we pray to you today/ Grant us freedom, return glory to our Mother Ukraine." Reagan ended his broadcast: "I guess we all hope their prayer is answered." |
