LOOK AT THE ROOT CAUSES OF UNREST AND NOT THE POLITICALLY CONVENIENT

There have been times of anguish and contention throughout our history.  We have the advantage of learning from those who have navigated through difficult times and have passed on to us the wisdom they gained.  Yet, we tend to ignore that wisdom and believe we have greater insight than do those who were successful, and so we struggle.  It is time we; the American people listen to the wise and not the politically ambitious who would use the sufferings of others for their own gain.

Our generation more than any other in American history has determined that our role as parents, if we even exercise that role by being present in our children’s lives, is to give them toys and gadgets to show our neighbors just how successful we are as opposed to determining if the toys and gadgets are important in the development of the child to be a responsible individual with a strong character.  Wiser people have told us our true responsibility is to give our children our time and direction, teaching them solid principles and not abdicating that responsibility to the schools or government.

It is the duty of parents to maintain their children decently, and according to their circumstances; to protect them according to the dictates of prudence; and to educate them according to the suggestions of a judicious and zealous regard for their usefulness, their respectability and happiness. James Wilson

We were instructed to be aware of the character of those we elect to represent us.  The type of individual we choose to represent us reflects the character of the electorate, therefore always choose those who will put duty above self, who understand to profit from their position is immoral and is the result of weak character, and that to mislead or misrepresent for the purpose of gain is reprehensible.

If men of wisdom and knowledge, of moderation and temperance, of patience, fortitude and perseverance, of sobriety and true republican simplicity of manners, of zeal for the honour of the Supreme Being and the welfare of the commonwealth; if men possessed of these other excellent qualities are chosen to fill the seats of government, we may expect that our affairs will rest on a solid and permanent foundation. Samuel Adam
In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate — look to his character.... Noah Webster
It is certainly true that a popular government cannot flourish without virtue in the people. Richard Henry Lee

We were warned that liberty, although secured now, can just as quickly be taken from us.  If we fail to heed the directions to always be vigilant in our own conduct as well as electing those who exhibit that same sense of duty to virtuous service and not self-serving or opportunistic service, our liberty could prevail.

Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them. Joseph Story
The American war is over; but this far from being the case with the American revolution. On the contrary, nothing but the first act of the drama is closed. It remains yet to establish and perfect our new forms of government, and to prepare the principles, morals, and manners of our citizens for these forms of government after they are established and brought to perfection. Benjamin Rush

For liberty to prevail, we must heed the advice of those who won our liberty.  We must turn our back on those who show weak character by making false promises, false claims, claiming simple solutions to complex problems – solutions that abridge our liberties as opposed to enhancing our liberties, and demonize others simply because they disagree with their political position.  These are the strategies of demagogues who have as their goal to deceive the masses for their own glory, power, and wealth.  To understand who these deceivers are, take note of those who, even before knowing facts or circumstances, profess simple solutions for notoriety and political gain, and demonize their political opponents for the same purposes.
