Thomas Perez has been nominated as Labor Secretary. His government background has had nothing to do with labor. Perez worked at the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in Washington, DC. Where he prosecuted federal criminal civil rights cases involving police misconduct and hate crimes. He was heavily involved in Department efforts to combat racial profiling. Later Perez served as deputy assistant attorney general for Civil Rights, where he assisted in policy development and oversight of the litigation at the Civil Rights Division. He then served as director of the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the Department of Health and Human Services, where he oversaw the enforcement of anti-discrimination laws in the health and human services setting and was Secretary Donna Shalala’s principal adviser on civil rights issues.
EPA nominee Gina McCarthy is opposed because she is refusing to divulge necessary information about the agency’s use of secondary email accounts, among other lack-of-transparency issues. Have we not seen enough o this totalitarian state attitude already?
On the Cordray nomination, a letter to Obama stated opposition of any nominee to lead the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will continue until “key changes are made to ensure accountability and transparency at the bureau.” The power grab of the “Dictatorship of the Proletariat” must be halted.
