The blood is still is still present, the families are still in shock, and the perpetrator's motives are unknown, but the politician has the answer for the tragedy, and that answer is to quickly enact an action that supports his road to election. In today's instant news and bumper sticker mentality, the ambitious politician understands that it is not the substance of their response but how quickly it is made and how outlandish it is that will get them the headlines they desire.
The ambitious politician and irresponsible news outlets and pundits understand that instant responses, regardless of content or validity, will help them achieve their ultimate goal; name recognition. Consequently, meaningless bumper sticker comments are spread to the masses who form an instant opinion and move on with their lives, filing their reaction in their minds for later use and disregarding whether or not the opinion has any validity. When, in days or weeks, facts are revealed that completely disparage the bumper sticker comments, the ambitious politician and aspiring news outlet and pundit will either issue a short, never to be heard retraction, or will completely ignore their ignorant initial statement. This is our political and news outlet landscape of today. Both the ambitious politician and aspiring news outlets and pundits know the short memories of the public. They understand that after the facts have been revealed, the public has moved on and consequently they can avoid what should be their goal; getting to the root cause of the problem and not the immediate reaction that brings the headlines. Ambitious politicians and aspiring and irresponsible news outlets and pundits have always been a part of any society. What we must quickly learn is that ambitious politicians and irresponsible news outlets and pundits are not the root cause of the ills of society, but they are perpetuators of all that is evil. The root cause of evil always lies with the masses, people who turn their heads and say what is, always was, and always will be. This is false. What history teaches us is that a society where the masses or people take a sincere interest, they read, they study, they learn, they become involved; these people can change the evil core growing within their midst. If just one individual will take a sincere interest in the fallacies being sung by the ambitious politician and irresponsible news outlets and pundits, and that individual makes the effort to discuss, not argue or debate, with their family, friends, and acquaintances, seeds will be planted of the necessity of more people to take a sincere interest. Remember, questions that cause the other person to think, wonder, and hopefully do some research are far more valuable than dogmatic statements. We the people, can never shirk our responsibility that is critical if we are to remain a free people with our government protecting our liberties and rights and not controlling and eliminating those liberties and rights. We must remember that politicians and news sources reflect the electorate and people. When we abdicate our responsibility of being concerned citizens and accept the bumper sticker and immediate responses by the ambitious politician and irresponsible aspiring news outlets and pundits, we have abdicated our right to liberty and rights and have acquiesced to be servants and slaves to the ambitions of that politician. The country we have, the liberties we have, the evil that does or does not exist within a society is always determined by the people. History proves that an informed, involved, and knowledgeable people will have a more peaceful and harmonious society than does an uninformed, uninvolved, and unaware society. Yes, once again the choice is ours.
