“This weekend, millions of Americans will gather with family, friends, and neighbors to celebrate Independence Day. But the July 4th weekend has long been about more than just barbeques and fireworks. It is also a chance for Americans to reflect on the nation’s fundamental values and celebrate fundamental American freedoms, including what many call the first freedom: religious liberty.
This year, Independence Day coincides with the end of Ramadan—the Islamic holy month when Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to sunset. However, Ramadan includes more than just abstaining from food and drink. During this month, Muslims strive to come closer to God by performing charitable acts, mending broken relationships, and building character while practicing self-discipline. Ramadan can be a challenging month for Muslims to observe, not only because of the long, hot days of fasting but also because of the constant scrutiny, discrimination, and hate crimes that Muslims face today from bigoted individuals in the media, politics, and the general public. These daily aggressions offer a stark reminder that religious liberty is not a reality for all in the nation.”
Again the Progressives, in their quest to be politically correct have some very fundamental errors in their premise. The Progressives put forth that commonly expressed notion that the Constitution guarantees religious liberty. It does, but not in the way the Progressives would have us believe. We must remember that Great Britain had a state religion, the Church of England. It was the state and not the individual churches who paid the salaries of the clergy that served the Church of England. Regardless of which religion you practiced, you were contributing to the Church of England.
The Constitution, in the First Amendment, says there can be no state religion, be that religion the Muslim faith, the Jewish faith, or some Christian faith. The First Amendment does not talk about “freedom from religion” or “freedom of religion,” it simply says there will be no state sponsored or state supported religion. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
The Progressives also say that during Ramadan the Muslims are striving to be closer to God. This is a politically correct statement that is totally false. The Muslims do no worship the God of the Bible, which this statement would lead us to belief. The Muslims worship Allah and the Prophet. When the Progressives say God, they are implying God and Jesus. There is not an equivalency, just as there is not an equivalency between the Koran and the Bible.
The Progressives mislead by using false equivalencies all the time. This is the political correctness they have brought to America. Be aware.
