A Progressive believes that liberty, voluntary cooperation, and the free market are not enough. The Progressive believes that the state must impose its will, even with the use of force, to achieve different and even better results than can be achieved by individuals without government coercion. Progressivism is a quasi-religious belief in state action even by force, over individual choice.
Woodrow Wilson described the goal of Progressivism as helping the individual to deal with forces he “cannot alter, control, or singly cope with.” This is why the Progressive will always have as his first and only solution for any situation that might arise, a solution enforced by government.
Progressivism is not rational thought but a way in which the progressive can feel better about them. They belief that only the state is truly capable of solving a problem or at the least will solve it best. It is for this reason the Progressive will say state answers even through force are the answers to every single problem that might arise during the course of a human life.
Tragically, since Progressivism is a false and seductive doctrine by promising something for nothing including free solutions to individual problems such as how much soda is good for you or what you should eat, the people who support the Progressive end up weaker, poorer, and more vulnerable than they would have without it. These supporters are also kept from positive solutions to life’s problems; productive work, savings and investment, rational thought, careful study and research, forming positive relations, and voluntary cooperation.
The Democrat Party (Marxist/Progressives) professes Progressivism as their only belief. Unfortunately, the Republican Party is not exempt from this damaging philosophy. What we know is that Progressivism has always led to a totalitarian state where eventually, through force, the government controls all aspects of an individual’s life. When you hear any candidate advocate solving a problem through a law or government regulation, examine it closely for the stench of Progressivism regardless what that person calls themselves; a Democrat (Marxist/Progressive) or Republican.
Anybody who would advocate government control of health care in any form is a Progressive. Anybody who would advocate government control of compensation paid by a private company is a Progressive. Anybody who would advocate nationalizing the banking system is a Progressive. Anybody who would advocate government control of student loans such as we now have is a Progressive. Anybody who will not answer questions about their positions rationally and reasonably but instead will attack the person, who asked the question, is a Progressive.
It is your responsibility to understand Progressivism and its dangers. Then you must decide if you support this philosophy that has always brought totalitarianism. If you decide you do not support an eventual totalitarian state, you must discern which candidates for any office support or oppose Progressivism and act accordingly.
