This cannot happen again. We conservatives must prevent the Republican establishment from having the nomination go to another candidate that in any way resembles the last two. Again we hear candidates claim they are conservative even though their past history would indicate differently, just like the last two nominees.
Conservatism is grounded in a realistic view of mankind. The realistic view of mankind is that we have flaws and imperfections. In Federalist #6 Alexander Hamilton warned, “Men are ambitious, vindictive, and rapacious.” Conservatives do not believe there is anything in human history to prove the perfectibility of man. This is different from the progressive who continues the belief put forth by Hegel that mankind inevitably advances and improves and will ultimately reach perfection. Because of this difference, the conservative believes that the role of government is to establish order and preserve liberty, the very reason the revolution took place. The conservative believes that life, liberty, and the freedom to pursue happiness come from God while the progressive believes these rights are granted by government, which is man, and can be controlled by government or man. Consequently, the conservative beliefs the role of government (which is nothing but a conglomeration of people) should be very limited, while the progressive believes the role of government should not be curtailed but expanded so as to control the lives and interests of the citizens. The conservative believes in individual liberty with limited government and the progressive believes in the goodness and greatness of government (which is nothing but a conglomeration of people with all the faults of humankind.)
We as conservatives should be scrutinizing these candidates to determine which of them promotes government and which of them would curtail the role of government. We should listen to see if any of the candidates openly call for not only less taxes, spending, and regulation, but do they advocate the reduction of government by reducing the numbers of agencies and government personal. We should determine if any of the candidates would reduce or eliminate such tyrannical agencies such as the EPA and the IRS. We should listen to see if any of the candidates would eliminate such intrusive and destructive departments like the Department of Education, the Department of Human Resources, and the Department of Agriculture for starters. A true conservative will call for the reduction of government. President Calvin Coolidge was the last president to actually reduce government. Let us determine who will be the next.
Americans are very critical of those in government today and properly so. We have suffered over the past many years by listening to wonderful and glorious promises by self-serving politicians only to learn that once re-elected nothing changes. While listening to the debate we should be very judicious in words used by the different candidates. Be careful and determine if the candidate answers questions and gives explanations using adjectives or verbs. An adjective only describes another person, place, or thing. An adjective is nothing more than an opinion; it does not describe an action. This is one conservative who loves liberty and is an independent individual who is capable of forming his own opinion about people, places, or things. I do not need a politician to describe them for me.
This is one conservative who will listen for verbs. This is one conservative who is looking for a person of action and character. This is one conservative who will listen to the candidates to hear what their action plans are. This is one conservative who will listen to determine if the candidate will reduce government or increase it. This is one conservative who will listen to the candidates and determine if they are people capable of leading, not by demeaning, but through example and action. This is one conservative who believes the candidate chosen to represent the Republican Party must be a conservative, of good character, of positive action, and a leader.
It is essential the next nominee be thoroughly vetted and tested for those characteristics; the future of our nation depends on it.
