At some point in time, what is considered mainstream in any free society, was at one time considered to be fringe. Many of us were considered mainstream 50 years ago. Today we are considered fringe by the Marxist/Progressive movement which includes most of the press and the Democrat party. In this instance, we who are now the fringe would strongly disagree with the movement.
Prior to the Revolutionary War and even during it, what became mainstream was referred to as fringe. In that instance, we who are now considered fringe, would have strongly agreed with the movement. And so the pendulum swings.
What we have learned through movements of this kind is that the fringe movement is most often a fad professed by attention seekers only and generally does not gain much traction. If, however, those attention seekers are given the attention they are seeking, the fringe movement has a much better chance of gaining momentum. In a free society, we should never eliminate the fad movements by force of any kind. We should, however, give credence through publicity only when warranted.
A not so good quarterback has drawn undue attention to the racist movement of Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter is not only a group of racists but also advocates the killing of law enforcement personnel. Any publicity this movement receives is bad publicity because it gives credence to young impressionable people that hatred for white people and disrespect for law enforcement is good and honorable. The Marxist/Progressive Party has already reinforced this concept.
This not so good quarterback drew undue attention not only to himself but also to the racist and hateful movement already recognized by Comrades Obama and Hillary. This attention was not only generated by the progressive press, but was also given undue notoriety by we Americans who love and cherish freedom. Many times the ignorant and disrespectful actions of the fringes are best just ignored. As we Americans who love and cherish freedom, in contrast to the progressives who profess their belief in a free society so long as all conform to their belief system as in a tyranny, try to point out the mindless and disrespectful actions of these despicable individuals, we help raise awareness.
A free society must tolerate the fringes or it is not a free society. However, toleration does not mean acceptance of nor publicity for that fringe belief or the advocate. Most of the time, ignoring such actions brings about the desired result; the individual becoming the anonymous person they were before their ignorant and disrespectful action and the fringe action retreating into oblivion.
