At the very core of who the United States was at the time of our formation was that power emanated from the people to the government. The tenth amendment reinforces this concept. This concept is critical. It was totally unique and had not been attempted before. Previous governments had power emanate from a ruling body, be it an individual or a committee, to the people. The United States said the people are the rulers and the government is the servant. The other countries said the government was the ruler and the people were the subjects or the servants.
The United States also started with a written constitution. This was unique and has become common only in very recent history. This is critical because the United States said we are to be a country that abides by the concept of "rule of law." All citizens, including those in government, are subject to the same laws. The law cannot be changed because an individual, including the President, wants it changed. Any change must go through the designated process. "Rule of law" is in contrast to the concept of "arbitrary law." "Arbitrary law" was how all governments had operated prior to the United States, and how many still operate today. Sadly, especially with the Obama regime, this is how the United States is operating more and more.
The concepts of "rule by the people" and "rule of law" were specifically instituted so the United States would remain a free nation, if we could keep freedom, as we were warned by our founders. Now we have the simplicity and stupidity of a person like Gwyneth Paltrow gush, by saying that it would be wonderful if we were able to give this man (meaning Obama) all the power that he needs so he could pass the things he needs to pass.
Unfortunately there are many Americans who think in this simplistic and stupid manner. I am a conservative and not a Marxist/Progressive as is Obama. I suspect that Paltrow does not have the intellectual sufficiency to have any idea what she is. I would not, and would hope that all conservatives would believe the same, ever support the concept Paltrow so foolishly stated, even if the person in power was Ronald Reagan or Ted Cruz. What Paltrow so foolishly stated was she would abdicate the right to freedom to have some policies passed. What she stated is the exact opposite of everything our founders established. She stated, unknowingly perhaps, that she prefers a tryanny to freedom. Many Americans will listen to her words and echo her sentiments. And yet, I will to my dying day defend her right to make such a stupid and simplistic statement, because that is what we FREEDOM LOVING AMERICANS DO; WE DEFEND FREEDOM.
