That freedom of speech is a necessity to a free society and the absence thereof is essential to tyranny is a law of nature. History has proven this time after time. Most recently we have learned from history that the abridgement of that essential freedom was paramount in the takeover by the Communists in Russia under Lenin as well as the takeover by the Nazi’s in Germany.
Collectivists (Communists, Marxists, Progressives, Socialists, Liberals, Democrats) insist on total conformity to their way of thinking. They cannot and will not tolerate open discussion and thought. They insist on indoctrination and not education. This movement, the limitation of free speech and the insistence that any nonconforming thought be limited and eventually eliminated, is underway in the United States.
Below are examples of how this movement begins and progresses.
Four-in-ten Millennials say the government should be able to prevent people publicly making statements that are offensive to minority groups,
About 71 percent of college freshmen surveyed said they agreed with the statement that “colleges should prohibit racist/sexist speech on campus.”
More than half of America’s colleges and universities now have restrictive speech codes. And, according to a censorship watchdog group, 217 American colleges and universities—including some of the most prestigious—have speech codes that “unambiguously impinge upon free speech.”
Comedian Chelsea Handler wants laws against "people who think racism is funny," after two Chinese tourists were arrested in Germany after making Nazi salutes.
"2 Chinese guys were arrested in Berlin for making Nazi salutes. Wouldn't it be nice 2 have laws here for people who think racism is funny?" Handler tweeted Sunday.
The Portland mayor had a concern that two rallies recently would escalate what had been an already volatile situation in Portland by peddling “a message of hatred and of bigotry.” Although the organizers of the rallies had a constitutional right to speak, “hate speech is not protected by the First Amendment,” Wheeler told reporters.
But history and precedent are not on Wheeler's side. The Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that hate speech, no matter how bigoted or offensive, is free speech.
This is an example of how this movement ends; freedom of speech is abridged and free thought is eliminated. Any who oppose or violate the demands of the collectivist movement is jailed and eventually eliminated.
Venezuela’s socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro told viewers on national television he wished he could sentence opposition members to 30-year prison sentences for their tweets.
Maduro referred particularly to tweets against his regime’s imposition of a fabricated lawmaking body on the Venezuelan people, designed to usurp the power of the democratically-elected National Assembly and draft a new constitution.
“They went crazy on Twitter. Even with just the tweets that they published is good enough to stick all of them in prison for 30 years,” Maduro said in a speech in front of his delegates. “I am not a dictator, but sometimes I feel like becoming one against those sons of guns.”
In a speech in front of his new delegates, Maduro also pledged to “eliminate the parliamentary immunities that generate impunity,” as he seeks to dissolve the power of elected lawmakers and replace them with socialist delegates hand-picked by the regime.
