Schumer wants the Tea Party silenced because it opposes big government. He said the Tea Party has been able to make "government” the boogeyman. They have convinced too much of America that government is the explanation for their all ills. Even though most Americans and even most Tea Party adherents like much of what the government does, the Tea Party proclaims that everything that is wrong, even non-economic and private sector problems can be blamed on the government. Their mantra "dramatically shrink government and our problems will end" is the fundamentally false, but not effectively challenged premise, that is the core weakness of the Tea Party, and one we can exploit to turn American politics around to the benefit of our nation.
The Tea Party’s concept of government differs from those of the Marxist/Progressives concept of government. The Tea Party’s concept of government is the same one the founders had when they wrote the Constitution and added the Bill of Rights. The founders new it was critical to a free society that the citizens have the right to express opposing ideas. Any government that does not tolerate open and honest debate is no longer a free society but it is a society ruled by a totalitarian state.
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.
Schumer is directly calling for the First Amendment to the United States Constituent to be abolished, not by another amendment, not even by a law passed in congress but by a regulation issued through the IRS. Schumer is in fact calling for the end of the Republic and for a Marxist state ruled by the dictatorship of the proletariat. Where is the outrage? Never forget that Jefferson warned us, “Freedom is lost gradually by an uninterested, an uninformed and an unevolved people.”
