Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Every time the Supreme Court rules in favor of the First Amendment in a campaign-finance case, the Marxist/Progressives recoil in disgust.
The court’s 5-4 decision in McCutcheon v. FEC is the latest occasion for the rending of garments and gnashing of teeth. The court struck down the limit on the aggregate amount a donor can give to candidates and political party committees, an arbitrary restriction it ruled incompatible with First Amendment protections for political expression.
In unison, the Marxist/Progressives pronounced their outrage. Chuck Schumer (M/P N.Y.) — who had $11 million in his campaign treasury as of December 2013 — despite being a senator for life, called the decision “another step on the road to ruination.”
Harry Reid (M/P Nev.), who has enough of a fundraising surplus that he was able to buy tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry for his donors from his granddaughter, resorted to a thunderous non sequitur in denouncing the decision: “All it does is take away people’s rights because, as you know, the Koch brothers are trying to buy America.” Of course, George Soros is never mentioned.
The First Amendment is for strippers, flag burners, pornographers, funeral protesters and neo-Nazis, but not for people trying to give money to political parties or candidates. They are a suspect class. These conservative groups are classified as a threat to democracy because they want to participate in democracy but have contrary beliefs to the Marxist/Progressives.
This same Schumer and Reid have advocated the IRS write law so the IRS can limit people in Conservative groups from receiving their proper tax designation. This same Schumer advocates passing a law that designate what a journalist is with the intent of controlling the press. These same Marxist/Progressives support mandates that prohibit Christians from practicing their religion by banning displays or crosses the Marxist/Progressives find offensive. When the Marxist/Progressives violate the first amendment they claim it is in protection of democracy. When the Supreme Court states freedom of speech is freedom of speech for all, not just the groups supported by the Marxist/Progressives, these Marxist/Progressives claim democracy is being threatened.
Marx told these people that the fundamental transformation promised by Obama, head of the regime and Marxist/Progressives, would have to use despotic means to be completed. Applying freedoms in an arbitrary manner as the Marxist/Progressives choose to do is certainly despotic and always found in a totalitarian state.
