Progressives say they believe in diversity, and want women, blacks, Latinos, gays and Muslims at the table — er, so long as they aren’t conservatives. Universities are the bedrock of progressive values, but the one kind of diversity that universities disregard is ideological and religious. Progressives are fine with people who don’t look like them, as long as they think like them.
O.K., that’s a little harsh. But consider George Yancey, a sociologist who is black and evangelical.
“Outside of academia I faced more problems as a black,” he said. “But inside academia I face more problems as a Christian, and it is not even close.”
On Facebook recently, if you had wondered aloud whether universities stigmatize conservatives and undermine intellectual diversity, the scornful reaction from Progressive proved that, yes they do.
“Much of the ‘conservative’ worldview consists of ideas that are known empirically to be false,” said Carmi.
“The truth has a liberal slant,” wrote Michelle.
“Why stop there?” asked Steven. “How about we make faculties more diverse by hiring idiots?” were some of the comments.
The newly crowned Miss USA ignited a firestorm of Progressive outrage after she gave very non-progressive answers when asked about health care and feminism, specifically declaring health care a “privilege” and ripping modern feminism. During the pageant’s question-and-answer period, 25-year-old Kára McCullough, a black lady, was asked whether she believes health care is a right or a privilege for Americans.
“I’m definitely going to say it’s a privilege,” McCullough said, explaining that Americans shouldn’t be forced by the government to pay for the health care of other Americans.
McCullough, who works as a government scientist for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, further explained:
“As a government employee, I’m granted health care. And I see firsthand that for one, to have health care, you need to have jobs, so therefore we need to continue to cultivate this environment that we’re given the opportunity to have health care as well as jobs.”
When later asked for her views on feminism and whether she believes she’s a feminist, McCullough said she doesn’t like the word “feminist.”
“As a woman scientist in the government, I’d like to lately transpose the word ‘feminism’ to ‘equalism,’” she said.
The reaction by the Progressives to both answers was harsh, critical, and downright nasty.
Here is an accomplished young black woman who has earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry. She is everything the Progressives and the Feminists say they strongly support. However, Miss McCullough does not agree with the progressive line that government should take care of people from cradle to grave or that feminists must all march to the same tune. Miss McCullough apparently believes in the same philosophy our founders supported; individualism where all should have equal opportunity.
The Progressives will not support Miss McCullough because Miss McCullough believes in self-support. This young lady is a great representative of the USA because she believes in the values upon which the USA was founded.
