Our founding fathers also understood that the continuation of a free society is dependent on the basic freedoms of speech, religion, press and assembly. The press was not kind to many of our founders and yet they added ten amendments to the constitution. The first of these amendments is paramount to freedom. It reads:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Now we again hear the aspiring dictator Obama calling for a limitation on these critical freedoms, This time Obama wants to control the press. This is not his first attempt. A few years ago Obama tried to have henchmen from his regime placed in newsrooms and approve what could be published. He was unable to impose that restriction. Now Obama is calling for the censorship of a specific news outlet. This is what Obama recently said:
"I think that the effort to suggest that the poor are sponges, leeches, don’t want to work, are lazy, are undeserving, got traction. And look, it’s still being propagated. I have to say that if you watch Fox News on a regular basis, it is a constant venue. They will find folks who make me mad. I don’t know where they find them. They’re all like, “I don’t want to work. I just want a free Obama Phone, or whatever.” And that becomes an entire narrative that gets worked up. And very rarely do you hear an interview of a waitress, which is much more typical — who is raising a couple of kids and doing everything right but still can’t pay the bills.
And so, if we’re going to change how Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) and Sen. Mitch McConnell think, we’re going to have to change how our body politic thinks, which means we’re going to have to change how the media reports on these issues, and how people’s impressions of what it’s like to struggle in this economy looks like. And how budgets connect to that. And that’s a hard process because that requires a much broader conversation than typically we have on the nightly news."
It is not Obama's responsibility, nor is it the responsibility of the government to control how the body politic thinks. In a free society, all sides express their views and others have the right to agree or disagree. It is only in a totalitarian state, like the one called for by Marx and adhered to by Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro to name a few, that the control of how people think is a criteria of those in power.
What Obama and the other Marxist/Progressives believe is the antithesis of the very principles of freedom. What Obama stated here, and has stated many times, is truly UN-American. It is his goal, the one he stated, to fundamentally transform the United States from a free society to a Marxist totalitarian state. We can not for a minute let down our guard for the evil that is Obama lives in the heart of the current Democratic candidates and yes even a couple of the Republican candidates. We will remain free only if we insist on adhering to those basic principles that protect our freedom, like those in the First Amendment.
