The Fair Minimum Wage Act would be a significant step to address this gap and help lift people out of poverty. A total of 6 million workers would be lifted out of poverty if the minimum wage were raised to $10.10, and 60 percent of them would be people of color so the Marxist/Progressive think tank the Center for American Progress claims.
The actual practice proves differently. The city surrounding SeaTac airport in Seattle is poised to raise their minimum wage from $9.32 an hour to $15.00 claiming this will bring people out of poverty. If in acted, that could be true for some of the minimum wage earners, but many others will become destitute. Cedarbrook Lodge General Manager said they will be looking to cut hours, eliminate benefits and outright cut many jobs. Other hotels and motels in the area are saying the same. Hotel chains have put building plans on hold while many restaurants are looking to not only cut hours and eliminate staff; several have indicated they will close locations.
This is very typical with drastic increases such as are being proposed. A business cannot simply increase taxes or run eternal deficits like the government. The business has stiff competition and must generate positive cash flow to stay in business. Marxist/Progressives disdain profit as much as they disdain these minimum wage earners. Profits must be eliminated according to Marx and those who are hurt in the meantime are disposable anyway.
