We are no longer a nation abiding by “rule of law.” We now operate under the concept that our constitution is a “living document,” meaning that the constitution can mean whatever.
Our government is not a limited government, but has grown to be a very powerful government that dominates our lives and interests and confiscates an unprecedented amount of the personal assets of the citizens.
Our government is no longer a divided government, but is now dominated by the Judicial branch that has and continues to usurp the powers and authority of the Legislative and Executive branches.
We are no longer a nation where the people are the sovereign or the superior.
Popular sovereignty or the sovereignty of the people's rule, is the principle that the authority of a state and its government is created and sustained by the consent of its people who are the source of all political power.
In the Declaration of Independence, this concept was reinforced when the founders said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
Franklin said, “In a free society, those in government are the servants and the people are the superior and the sovereign.”
Now Morning Joe has explained that we are no longer a nation under “rule by the people.”
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said Monday that President Trump is learning amid falling poll numbers that “Washington always wins” against those who don't play by the rules.
“What Trump is learning here is, what we’ve said before, Washington always wins,” argued Scarborough on "Morning Joe."
“You don't play by Washington's rules. The courts are going to grab you. The intel community is grabbing the other leg. The House is going to grab you by the arm. The Senate will grab you by the other arm. And he doesn't seem to realize the more he flails, the more he lies, the more he struggles, the deeper he gets in political quicksand.”
The people elected Trump to “drain the swamp.” The people expect that the established Washington rules will be repealed. The people expected that we will no longer abide by the wishes and expectations of the entrenched and self-perceived elites. The people expected that those in government would act like the servants they are supposed to be and bend to the wishes of the people.
Morning Joe just explained that Washington perceives itself as sovereign and as sovereign will do what it wishes and expects the servants or the people to adhere to its wishes. Morning Joe explained to us that another of the principles upon which our nation was founded is gone. Rule of law is gone. Limited government is gone. Divided government is gone. Now, rule by the people is gone.
The Declaration of Independence, that document of we the people, also says, “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
We must either “drain the swamp” or adhere to our document, the Declaration of Independence. If we do not do one or the other soon, we will no longer be able to even pretend that we are free. Patrick Henry said, “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, the constitution is an instrument for the people to restrain the government, lest it (the government) should come to dominate your lives and your interests.”
The government, as Morning Joe says, now believes they are to restrain the people and they are to dominate our lives and our interests because they are sovereign and we the people are to serve them. The founders were correct; the government they formed has fulfilled the threat of taking the freedom of the people.
