The press is currently obsessed with the Republicans’ lack of willingness to accede to Obama’s demand to put off the sequester. Obama himself has declared that the oceans themselves will overtake the planet if the sequester isn’t stopped from happening next week. Today he declared, with the usual sob story props beside him that the end of the world is near: The “meat cleaver approach” will lead to such things as the layoffs of teachers, cutbacks in the air traffic control system, furloughs of FBI agents and a compromised military (which is his goal anyway), Obama said as he again called for heading off sequestration with a “balanced” debt reduction plan — and laid the groundwork for blaming the Republicans if the automatic cuts come to pass. “These cuts are not smart, these cuts are not fair,” Obama said. “People will lose their jobs.”
Of course, none of this happened.
Today we heard this hysteria from the Marxist/Progressives.
Chuck Schumer said Monday that if Republicans allow the government to shut down over Obamacare, they are sacrificing Americans to the “right-wing gods.”
Obama is ramping up pressure on Republicans to avoid a post-midnight government shutdown. He says a shutdown would hurt the economy and hundreds of thousands of government workers. He says it would “throw a wrench into the gears” of a recovering economy.
The hysteria we hear is the same we always hear. However, the fact is, this is not a failure of a single party or a single person. This is a failure of big government and governing by crisis. This is a failure of the American people. We are the ones who have voted into office the incompetent grandstanders we have attempting to govern. For five years, this patchwork attempt of governing by Continuing Resolutions has been in place. The budget process, which is the law, is important as we can see. It brings structure and certainty. Decisions of such import should not be made in the haphazard way to which we have become accustomed. We the American people must demand a change. We can only do this at the ballot box.
