Obama defended his use of executive power as a means to bypass gridlock in Congress during a press conference at the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit on Wednesday.
"The American people don't want me just standing around twiddling my thumbs and waiting for Congress to get something done," Obama said.
The American people expect you to uphold the Constitution you swore you would uphold. That means you will enforce the law of the land. That means you will not lie to the American public. That means you will insist on thoroughly investigating all the scandals that are destroying the very essence of rule of law. That means that you will not make law or change law on your own in direct violation of the Constitution. That means that you must wait for both houses of Congress to pass a law before it can be signed into law.
Obama repeatedly indicated he would prefer to work with Congress to find legislative solutions on a slew of issues including funding for federal infrastructure projects and the border crisis. However, in the face of what he described as "dysfunction" in Congress, Obama said he would "scour our authority to try to make progress" within the bounds of the law.
"I'm going to seize those opportunities and that's what I think the American people expect me to do," said Obama.
The American people expect you to work with Congress. The American people understand that dysfunction is caused by both sides. The American people understand other people do not react well when another person ridicules them, insults them, and threatens them. The American public understands that when people work together they actually sit down and talk, sharing ideas and not laughing while the other is sharing a serious idea.
Obama was also specifically asked whether he would take executive action and bypass Congress to eliminate so-called corporate inversions, where companies merge with a foreign business in order to shift their tax base out of the country. The president, who has repeatedly spoken out against inversions, said he could not "solve the entire problem administratively," but he said he was "examining" potential ways to address the issue.
This problem could be solved within days if the Marxist/Progressives really wanted to solve the problem. A law could be passed and signed that lowered the corporate tax rates to be competitive with the rest of the world. Obama could stop his war against business through harassment and regulations today. This would solve this Marxist/Progressive created action immediately. The American people understand.
