Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), a former prosecutor, ripped into the company with her opening statement as she chaired the hearing. GM has a “culture of cover-up that allowed an engineer at GM to lie under oath, repeatedly,” said McCaskill, citing documentation that the engineer had claimed ignorance about a change to the lock that he had personally signed off on. “It might have been the old GM that started sweeping this under the rug 10 years ago, but it was the new GM that waited nine months to take action after being confronted with specific evidence of an egregious violation of the public trust.”
Members brushed aside Barra’s insistence of a new GM focused on consumer safety rather than cost savings, pronouncing their personal disappointment in the performance of the company’s first female CEO. They grilled Barra on why the company has failed to fire anyone involved in the defect or its apparent cover-up, challenged her on whether she would let her own children drive one of the recalled cars and pressed her to support legislation, long opposed by the auto industry, to release more information about safety problems.
Barbara Boxer (M/P-Calif.) got personal with Barra during her questioning.
“Woman to woman, I am very disappointed,” Boxer said. “Because the culture you’re representing here is the culture of the status quo.”
These supposed leaders and statesman talk about the horrible culture of lying at GM. We did not hear any discussion about the culture of lying in the Administration they are suppose to oversee. Holder has gone before congress many times and has not been forthcoming in his testimony. Clapper has lied to congress. IRS personnel have lied and mislead congress. People from the state department and security agencies have lied to congress about Benghazi. The culture of lying and cover up is the everyday course of business in the regime. Where is the outrage?
These overseers of our government then had the audacity to question the GM CEO why nobody was fired for what truly was a cover up of incompetence that in fact did end in the death of innocent people. But, let us look again at Benghazi. Incompetence and political expediency brought about the deaths of four Americans. We find this incompetence and political convenience practiced for several months before the catastrophe and then during the attack. Nobody was fired and nobody has been held responsible. In fact one of the people in the cover up was promoted; Susan Rice. Where is the outrage? We learn of personnel in the IRS intentionally obliterating the First Amendment to the United States Constitution for political purposes. People were not fired or chastised. In fact many of those responsible were promoted. Where is the outrage?
Boxer declares her outrage because the culture she claims did not change at GM after GM was exposed. The culture of lying, cover up and of no one being held responsible is truly not excusable by GM. The culture of lying, cover up and no one being held responsible is even more egregious in the government because it sets the tone for the nation. The culture of lying and saying whatever is deemed necessary to further a cause or protect individuals has been set by Obama, leader of the regime and Marxist/Progressives. GM had seen this example set by these very people who were chastising her and by the top of the administrative branch of our government. What was practiced was blatant hypocrisy by a group of self-righteous people.
