Other than the press perhaps and maybe other areas of the society who receive campaign funds for services produced, people agree this is way too long. If it was reasonable to believe that a long campaign of this nature would produce the best and most virtuous leader for our country, than reasonable people would probably agree that it is a good system. Based on the last election, it would be concluded that the best campaigner is not the best leader or even a virtuous individual.
Assuming that in fact we do have an election in November of 2016, what criteria should we insist the new leader possesses? I am going to assume that the American people desire to remain a free people and value individuality over community. I realize that a larger and larger number of Americans are favoring control of the state over the individual which is a totalitarian state along with confiscation of individual property so it can be shared by the community which is communism. The criteria of a leader will be different for those people; Obama fulfills their requirements.
For Freedom Loving Americans the criteria should be different. The least important aspect would be the physical characteristics of the candidate including race and sex. The most important characteristic would be the character of the candidate. Is the candidate a virtuous person? The best candidate would be transparent. A transparent person, although virtuous, does not mean perfection. However the transparent person is aware that all will be revealed, so will act accordingly and will be willing to accept responsibility for their actions.
We should insist that the person we support and perhaps elect is not concerned about adhering just to the letter of the law but also the spirit of the law. Those who are concerned with just the letter of the law are constantly the subject of scandal, and even though criminal charges may not be able to be proven, the circumstantial evidence is so overwhelming that the intentions of the individual are always questioned. Those who operate on the edge of the law are people who are concerned with what is best for them. We do not need a leader who places their personal interest or their party’s interest above the needs of the country. We do not need a leader who leads based on poles. We need a leader who places country above all else.
This is a unique leader. We have seen these characteristics in very few leaders. We saw these characteristics in George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Calvin Coolidge, and Ronald Reagan. Will the next great statesperson please stand up; your country is calling because it is in great need.
