Patriotism can mean whatever one would want it to mean. What one person would define as patriotic, another would define just the opposite. I think it is fair to say that Lenin had a deep devotion to the land in which he was born. He had a strong hatred for the Romanov family, the family that ruled Russia. It was Alexander III that had Lenin’s oldest brother hung for subversive activities.
We will never know how much of Lenin’s insistence on revolution was because of his hatred for the Romanov family and how much of it was because of Marx’s teachings. What we do know is that Lenin always had the strong desire to return to Russia and change the government and long standing principles under which Russia had existed since at least the time of Ivan IV.
I think it would be fair to say Lenin was devoted to the geographic homeland but adamantly opposed to most other things that were called Russian including the Orthodox religion which had been a pivotal part of the Russian culture since before the time of Ivan IV. Was Lenin a patriot? You decide.
A defiant Rudy Giuliani doubled down on his cutting remarks about Obama Sunday, questioning the President’s patriotism for the fourth day in a row.
“I've said it may be 30 times before,” the former mayor said on a grocery mogul’s radio show. “This man has a different view of America than most American Presidents had.”
Obama would destroy or radically alter; he has in many ways, the United States Constitution. Obama has publicly stated that the constitution is an inadequate document. Obama would radically alter the economic system in the United States. His public statements and actions have shown he strongly disagrees with the capitalist system or free enterprise system. Obama has stated by his words and his actions that he does not believe in a strong military or protecting the borders of America.
Obama, by his words and his actions, has shown his disdain for the Christian religion on which so many of the principles on which the United States was founded are based.
In the conventional meaning of patriotism, neither Obama nor Lenin could have been classified as a patriot of their respective countries. Both individuals despised the form of government that was established in their country. Both individuals had as their primary goal to transform their respective societies to a Marxist based society. Both individuals despised the recognized religion in their land and have done what they could to equalize the teachings of that religion and minimize its influence. Both individuals wanted a complete change to take place within the borders of their country. Lenin was and Obama is a devout Marxist. Lenin became a Marxist at a later age than Obama. Obama was schooled in Marxism virtually from birth.
I am not going to say that neither of these individuals were and are patriots to their respective countries. What is clear is that both wanted to completely change all economic, governmental, cultural, and religious aspects of their countries. Both based their dreams and hopes on a complete revolution from what was to their ideal; that being a Marxist society. Rather than debating the patriotism of these two individuals, we should debate and discuss the society they wished to and wish to achieve and the consequences of that achievement; dependence, despair, destitution, and decay – socially, morally and economically. This is the end result of all Marxist experiments.
