Are we less free today than the American Colonists? The British did tell them they had to buy their tea from the East Indian Company so the British could tax the tea. Today we are told that we have to have a health policy and pay premiums to cover abortion. Today we are told we have to pay taxes on our earnings. Today we are told we have to pay taxes on property we give to our children. Today we are forced to pay taxes every time we refuel our car. Today we pay taxes on everything.
The American Colonists were upset because they were being forced to pay a fee on legal documents by buying stamps. Today we pay fees on every type of transaction including legal transactions, real estate transactions, purchasing transportation transactions, and all other transactions.
The American Colonists were free to conduct banking transactions. Today the federal government is dictating what types of industries can receive a loan from a bank regardless of the financial capability of the company. This is called “Operation Chokepoint,” which is an outgrowth of the President’s Financial Fraud Task Force, established by Obama by Executive Order in 2009. It has been kicked off in secret by the Department of Justice, FDIC, and the CFPB in early 2013 without the requisite statutory authority. Officials at the Department of Justice have withheld information about the program from Congress, though they have eagerly shared details with federal financial institution examiners authorized to supervise and discipline the nation’s banks and related financial institutions.
The Feds are demanding even more control over an individual’s financial transactions. The Justice Department is ordering bank employees to consider calling the cops on customers who withdraw $5,000 dollars or more, a chilling example of how the war on cash is intensifying. Banks are already required to file ‘suspicious activity reports’ on their customers, with threats of fines and even jail time for directors if financial institutions don’t meet quotas.
A senior official from the Justice Department spoke to a group of bankers about the need for them to rat out their customers to the police. Assistant attorney general Leslie Caldwell gave a speech in which he urged banks to “alert law enforcement authorities about the problem” so that police can “seize the funds” or at least “initiate an investigation”.
According to the handbook for the Federal Financial Institution Examination Council, such suspicious activity includes, “Transactions conducted or attempted by, at, or through the bank (or an affiliate) and aggregating $5,000 or more…”
The restraints on our freedoms, all of them, are greater than were the restraints on the freedoms of the American Colonist. The American Colonist refused to live under tyranny. How much longer will we allow the tyrannical rule of the Marxist/Progressives and big government advocates to continue? Will we wait until the Constitution and Bill of Rights have been totally obliterated? I for one will not be silenced.
