I have been a Conservative ever since I read “Conscience of a Conservative” by Barry Goldwater. This is from Barry Goldwater:
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is "needed" before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents' "interests," I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can.
Those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth. And let me remind you, they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyrannies. Absolute power does corrupt, and those who seek it must be suspect and must be opposed. Their mistaken course stems from false notions of equality, ladies and gentlemen. Equality, rightly understood, as our founding fathers understood it, leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences. Wrongly understood, as it has been so tragically in our time, it leads first to conformity and then to despotism.
Conservatism, we are told, is out-of-date. This charge is preposterous and we ought to boldly say so. The laws of God, and of nature, have no dateline. […] These principles are derived from the nature of man, and from the truths that God has revealed about His creation. […] To suggest that the Conservative philosophy is out of date is akin to saying that the Golden Rule, or the Ten Commandments or Aristotle’s Politics are out of date.
Yes Mr. Trump, you have stated you are a conservative. Of course, Ryan, McConnell, McCain, Graham, and so many others have also called themselves conservative. Barry Goldwater explained that Conservatives always take the road of less government. Our biggest problem in the country today is too much government.
When our founders drafted and then ratified the Constitution, they realized they had just created the single biggest threat there would ever be to take away the freedom they had just won; the government. Therefore, the Constitution was written for the sole purpose of limiting the government they had created.
Mr. Trump, what Meryl Streep says about you, or for that matter what anybody says about you, is totally unimportant. It does not deserve a response. You will be criticized, and many times properly so. It is good to look at the criticism, learn from it if you can, and then move on to the serious problems.
The United States faces two very serious threats. The threat you can attack on the day you are inaugurated is the threat any true conservative would attack and that is the size of the government. It is not time to reign in the growth of government. No, it is time to reduce government, both its size and its cost. All foolish and meaningless departments should be eliminated. The ones that immediately come to mind would be the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Resources, Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. There are many other. The Tenth amendment said the powers of these departments were reserved for the states and the people. If the size of government and budget deficits and debt are not reduced, all Americans will become slaves to the state as opposed to rulers of the state as are free and independent people. It is the intent of Obama and all Marxist/Progressives to make the individual a slave to the state. In which camp, do you fall Mr. Trump, the camp of the conservatives along with our founders, or the camp of the collectivists along with Obama and his Marxists.
Our second major threat is the threat to eliminate all Christian influence. Marx explained that to bring about the society desired by Obama and the Marxists, all long standing principles, morals, and religion must be abolished. Secularism has become a real threat to the American way of life. Secularism has dominated Europe. Marx advocated atheism. The difference between atheism and secularism is very subtle if there is a difference. Obama and his Marxists advocate both atheism and secularism. However, Obama goes one step further and also advocates Islamic Jihadism. Marxism and Islamic Jihadism are compatible. This combined movement is threatening the very core of our nation. It is threatening to bring chaos and civil strife. It is a means of destroying our society so the new Marxist state can be established as explained by Marx.
Mr. Trump, you cannot lose your focus and get caught up in foolish tweeting wars. There are too many serious problems. Personal attacks on you, no matter how they might affect your fragile ego, are not one of these problems. If you are a Barry Goldwater Conservative, please put your many talents to full use and lead the necessary changes that must be made. If you are not a Barry Goldwater Conservative, please have the courage and exhibit the love for this country you claim to have, and find a graceful way to step aside and allow the true Conservative you chose, Mike Pence, to lead that movement.
