It is possible, I suppose, for the liberal left to argue that how Roosevelt is viewed is opinion and open to different viewpoints despite the facts and documented history. However, for the liberal left to argue that the Holocaust was not a systematic means of eliminating all Jews from the earth, or that it did not even happen is beyond imagination. Yet this is happening. I visited Auschwitz. The torture chambers were still standing, the yard where killings occurred still had walls with bullet holes, the train tracks were still there, the gas chambers were still recognizable, and some of the horrible barracks were still standing. Yes, Auschwitz was a place where people were methodically killed just because they were Jews.
The deniers aren’t known for their subtlety. “I don’t see any reason to be tasteful about Auschwitz,” said author, anti-Semite, and Holocaust denier David Irving in 1991. He continued: "It’s baloney, it’s a legend. Once we admit the fact that it was a brutal slave labor camp and large numbers of people did die, as large numbers of innocent people died elsewhere in the War, why believe the rest of the baloney? I say quite tastelessly, in fact, that more women died on the back seat of Edward Kennedy’s car at Chappaquiddick than ever died in a gas chamber in Auschwitz."
Frederick Toben, an Australian who in 1999 served jail time in Germany for his Holocaust views, said in no uncertain terms that the number of Jews killed in Nazi death camps — an estimated 6 million — is a myth. ” The number of victims at the Auschwitz concentration camp could be about 2,007,” Toben said. ”The railroad to the camp did not have enough capacity to transfer large numbers of Jews.”
And, of course, the Muslim world denies the Holocaust, "because any acknowledging that the Holocaust actually was is in their view legitimizing Israel, and giving Israel (a reason) to live and to exist."
To deny the Holocaust is truly anti-Semitic. So then why did Canadian PM Justin Trudeau omit mention of Jews when he dedicated the National Holocaust Monument. The plaque Canada's Prime Minister Trudeau unveiled last week at the dedication of the monument omitted any mention of Jews.
Presumably, the wording used by the P.M. in a public exhibition went through several rounds of staff review and approval, yet nobody working for Trudeau noticed this? How is that possible? So insulting is this omission that the embarrassed government of Canada is removing the plaque. Ryan Maloney of HuffPo Canada writes:
Canada's heritage minister says a plaque Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used to inaugurate the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa last week has been removed because it did not "reflect the horrors experienced by the Jewish people." Melanie Joly made the announcement in question period Tuesday after Conservative MP David Sweet noted that the plaque failed to mention the Jewish people by name.
